Supervisor Medical laboratory

Job Summary

Performs a variety of laboratory procedures in all sections, operates automated analyzers, performs routine laboratory procedures, and shares rotation schedule, covers after hours, holiday duties if required by laboratory manager. Able to work under very little supervision, plans, develops, writes procedures for the laboratory tests, and performs the more difficult tests in the laboratory and may lead and/or supervise the work of others. 


Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of subordinates.
  • Prioritizes and coordinates section activities in relationship to departmental functions.
  • Designs quality controls, quality assurance practices as per departmental and sectional established guidelines.
  • Ability to interpret, implement accreditation standards.
  • Writing, reviewing & updating SOPs.
  • Ensures adequate inventory for the laboratory and orders supplies and materials from vendors.
  • Plans, develops, formulates, and writes policies and procedures for the laboratory tests.
  • Determines which products and techniques to use, ensuring they are the most modern and cost-effective procedures.
  • Performs and reviews quality controls on testing and decides if results are within acceptable range, research problems and corrects.
  • Provides technical support to other medical technologists and clinicals through recommendations of appropriate diagnostic procedures.
  • Operates, calibrates, and conducts performance checks on clinical laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure timely reporting of results to clinical staff and assists clinical staff in interpretation of results, as needed.
  • Validates accuracy of assigned laboratory reports, verifies that abnormal results have been reviewed or investigated and that panic results are promptly communicated to the treating physician.
  • Assists in the preparation and management of the laboratory budget.
  • Is knowledgeable of the principles, practices, and techniques of advanced medical laboratory work.
  • Follow safety policies, universal precautions and hazardous material management and waste policies. 
  • Learns, understand and ensures implementation and observe of all existing/new polices related to CAP, JCI and any accreditation arises.
  • Participate in continuing medical medical education CME as defined by department.
  • Understands/implements Ah established policies related safety, safety codes and other related safety polices and evacuation codes etc.

Job Requirements:

  • Master/Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Technology or related area of specialty.
  •  Certification/registration or certification/registry eligible as a Medical Technologist, when available.

    Professional Experience (essential minimum requirement):

  • 8 years of working experience after the master’s degree.

    Specialized Knowledge (desirable):

    •      Basic computer skills.

  •  Good command of the English language.
  •  Writing SOPs.


Competencies:

  • Preanalytical phase (specimen handling, instrument maintenance, calibration and quality control run).

  • Analytical phase (reagent, instrumentations& equipment, technique).

  • Postanalytical phase (result interpretation & documentation, computer system& LIS).

  • Compliance with safety and PPE precautions.
