Senior Outpatient Pharmacist

Job Summary

leads the daily operations of a hospital outpatient pharmacy, ensuring safe medication dispensing while managing inventory, staff, and clinical workflows. act as a crucial link between junior staff and pharmacy management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Operational Management: Overseeing the daily functioning of the outpatient dispensary, managing pharmacy stock, inventory control, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  2. Prescription & Dispensing: Clinical screening and checking of outpatient prescriptions.
  3. Clinical & Medical Service & Care: Providing medication counseling to patients.
  4. Regulatory compliance: Monitoring of the proper implementation of rules & regulations.
  5. Leadership & Staff Training:
    1. Mentoring and training new pharmacy staff and technicians.
    2. Communicates to new staff newly approved policies, procedures, forms and guidelines & ensures their applications & implementation.
    3. Complete performance appraisal of subordinates.
    4. Coordination: Working closely with doctors and nursing staff & clinical team to ensure smooth patient care & Participate in the improvement projects in the unit.
  6. Scheduling of staff working hours and shifts to ensure maximal efficiency:
    1. Monitors work load in the area and communicates changes to the direct manager.
    2. Handles leave requests from the area, breaks, sick leaves , overtime & any unusual circumferences.
  7. Collaboration with multidisciplinary team.
  8. Ensure the proper implementation of the financial rules related to insurance, cash , petty cash and invoicing system.
  9. Ensures  a proper inventory of medications is maintained:
    1. Perform period checks on inventory and match against computer stock.
    2. Maintain the availability of the medications.
    3. Perform period checks on the batches & expiry date of medications.
    4. Audits billing data to ensure appropriate billing.
    5. Reports to administration on stock differences & discrepancies.
       

Education

  •  Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree.

Licenses Required 

  • Valid Ministry of Health Pharmacist license to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • JPA membership.

  • Proficiency in English and Arabic. 

Experience 

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in pharmacy practice including medication dispensing & compounding, safe handling of cytotoxic agents, drug utilization, patient education and counseling in a hospital setting. 

Working conditions & Physical requirements

  • Fixed 8 – 12 duty hours to meet operational needs.
  • Fast paced environment.
  • Touring the facility daily.
