Internal Medicine Specialist /Boarded

Job Summary

To oversee the care of patients admitted under internal medicine subspecialities and independently admit general internal medicine cases providing supervision for hospitalists and residents; and supporting attending physicians in managing complex cases. The post holder is expected to contribute to quality improvement programmes and support the Internal Medicine Residency Programme Director by providing administrative, clinical and educational supervision to trainees.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support ward round and the management of complex cases.
  • Attend to acutely deteriorating patients and make initial decisions.
  • Support ER doctors in making quick decisions about medical patients in ER.
  • Receive ICU step downs and negotiate appropriateness of the step down based on the care needs of the patient and the readiness of the floor to receive.
  • Attend to medical emergencies in other floors e.g. chest pain in an orthopedics patient.
  • Have admission rights to receive internal medicine cases covered by insurance.
  • Support the training program director for internal medicine.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to a healthy work environment by modeling the desired behaviors and encouraging those in others.
  • Incorporate quality improvement and/or patient satisfaction data into departmental goals.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and other department functions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate the hospital’s mission, vision, and values and goals.
  • Collaborate with other departments to create systems and problem solve ongoing issues that impact departmental/organizational goals and/or patient care delivery.
  • Demonstrate the ability to cope with and manage change, as well as help others do the same.
  • Work with the CMO to implement new policies, procedures, reviews, and updates policy and procedure related to the field of work.
  • Follow up of patients through regular rounds either alone or with senior hospitalists or attending physicians
  • Perform work of equal skill and responsibility as directed. May also perform work of a higher level in preparation for increased responsibility and may be requested to perform work of lesser responsibility if the workload requires in accordance to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all safety policy plans and procedures and applies them responsibly within his/her department particularly job-related hazards hospital exposure control plans/ bloodborne and airborne pathogens
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment such that to promote effective working relations.
  • Follow proper code of ethics and common values and hospital policies to protect patient and hospital privacy at all time
  • Comply with property and hospital assets policies which include hospital ownership of soft and hard assets i.e.: emails, applications, information, records, etc.


Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Education

  • Jordan or Arab Medical board in internal medicine specialty
  • Bachelor degree in medicine. 

Preferred 

  • MRCP UK
  • American Board of Internal Medicine
  • Special subspecialty certificates

Experience 

Minimum 2 years of experience, preferable in private hospital 

Licensing

  • Licensed to practice the hospitalist specialty from ministry of health of Jordan (HKJ)

Skills and Qualifications

  • Good communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent command of oral and written English
  • ACLS, AHA certificate      

Preferred

  • ATLS, AHA certificate
  • USMLE, Steps 1, 2
  • PLAB
