Job Summary
The Clinical Dietitian provides nutrition consultation and education for Abdali Medical patients and their families who are screened at nutrition risk, identified with nutrition risk, and/or referred by physicians or hospitalists for nutrition-related problems, chronic disease management, management of nutrition support, or for prevention and General health. The Clinical Dietician is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team who serves as the patient’s nutrition advocate that ensures patient’s nutrition needs are being met, including when nutrition support (enteral or parenteral) initiation and/or management is necessary, during patient care, clinic visits, and unit/clinic rounds.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Applies the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) including completion of the nutrition assessment, determination of the nutrition diagnosis, developing and implementing evidence-based nutrition intervention(s), and monitoring and evaluating the patient’s progress, and communicating the nutrition care plan with other members of the Abdali medical care team by effective verbal and written communication
- Provides evidence-based medical nutrition therapy to both inpatients and outpatients of varying acuity levels, including management of nutrition support initiation and advancement per hospital policy.
- Participates in compliance and quality performance improvement to ensure nutrition care is safe and effective
- Participates in the training of Dietetic interns and students when indicated.
- Functions as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, and participates in the education of physicians, residents, medical students and other health professionals as requested via lectures and in-service opportunities and team conferences.
- Works in accordance to organizational policies and guidelines.
- Maintains professional competency and skills required for professional practice.
- Assists in achieving compliance with the JCI, or other accrediting agency standards to continuously improve the safety and quality of care to Abdali Medical patients.
- Interacts with Support Services to maintain stocks of nutrition supplies.
- Coordinates and supervises inpatient meal service and other issues as they arise.
- Assists in developing and revising patient education materials, clinical practice guidelines and protocols.
- Participates in Nutrition Services Performance Improvement projects.
- Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary meetings, committees, and projects
- Maintains preferable growth and development.
- Participates in Public awareness campaigns and community projects as needed/assigned.
- Communicates directly with the meal service dieticians to ensure all patients dietary needs are met, supervises the tray- line and other related duties when needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition / Dietetics or related field.
Licenses Required
- Valid Ministry of Health Dietitian license to ensure regulatory compliance.

- Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process and ability to apply all steps.
- Comprehensive knowledge, application of medical nutrition therapy, human behavior and techniques for effecting behavior change.
- Comprehensive knowledge and application of nutrition support services.

- General knowledge of nutrient analysis, word processing, spreadsheet, and professional presentation software
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Proficiency in English and Arabic. French is a plus
Experience
- Minimum 4 years of clinical experience in a clinical healthcare setting with a master's degree.
- Hospital experience is essential.

- Vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch abilities must be adequate to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as reading small print, reading from monitoring equipment, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate oral messages.
